Fire crews remain on the scene of a 75,000 square foot warehouse fire off of Highway 77 in Attalla. Etowah County 911 confirmed through Facebook that they were responding to a fire at Gadsden Warehousing, located at 600 Bill Austin Drive.
Highway 77 will remain shut down from Case Ave. to Hwy 11 throughout the night due to the fire. All traffic is being diverted. Emergency officials are asking topl ease avoid this area if possible. School traffic will be redirected through Camp Sibert.
Fire trucks will be driving back and forth to Petro on Highway 77 to refill due to hydrants in the area being completely tapped out. If you live in the area please know this is the reason your water pressure is down.
Fire Departments from multiple counties are working to get this fire under control, roads will be closed until further notice. Gadsden/Etowah EMA requested tanker truck units from Cherokee County with units from Spring Creek, Spring Garden, Leesburg, McCords, Ellisville, Broomtown, Tucker’s Chapel & Mt.Weisner Fire Departments responding late Monday afternoon. Cherokee County EMA officials were also on scene.
Multiple firefighters have been treated on scene for heat related issues and at least one person has been reported injured according to reports.
