ROME– A 16-year-old Rome High School student died after collapsing while playing soccer with friends and teammates Friday, according to family accounts reported by WSB-TV.
Bairon Candido Ramos Vicente was an 11th-grade student at Rome High School.
According to family members, Ramos Vicente lost consciousness on a field Sept. 18 and never regained consciousness.
However, Rome City Schools told WSB-TV that the incident occurred off school grounds and was not connected to a Rome High School activity. The district expressed its condolences to Ramos Vicente’s family, friends and loved ones.
A medical cause of death has not been released. In addition, officials have not publicly identified the field where he collapsed.
According to a fundraiser organized for the family, Ramos Vicente died while doing something he loved and spending time with friends. Loved ones described him as quiet but said he “always managed to put a smile on everyone’s face.”
Meanwhile, the fundraiser is seeking assistance with hospital and funeral expenses. The family thanked those who have donated or shared the campaign.
