ALEA Investigating An Officer Involved Shooting In Gadsden

Authorities have confirmed that a suspect was shot during a confrontation with police in East Gadsden on Saturday night.

According to Sergeant John Hallman with the Gadsden PD, officers received reports of shots fired Saturday night around 9:00 p.m. at 14th St. and Robinson Ave. Officers arrived and approached a suspect at the scene.

Per authorities, the suspect refused to follow the officer’s orders. During an ensuing scuffle, the officers realized the suspect had a handgun. The suspect’s gun was fired and an officer shot back.

The suspect was wounded by the gunfire. Neither officer was struck. All parties received medical treatment, but there were no life-threatening injuries.

Due to the incident involving an officer shooting, the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency will be investigating the shooting.
