Earthquake strikes off the coast of Alaska

iStock/Thinkstock(KODIAK, AK) — An earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 8.0 hit deep beneath the Gulf of Alaska early Tuesday, and a tsunami warning was issued from British Columbia to the Aleutians.

The quake was centered 175 miles southeast of Kodiak, according to the National Tsunami Warning Center in Palmer. The quake was 12 miles deep, the center said.
