The National Weather Service held a briefing this morning concerning the potential for snowfall late Tuesday afternoon.

Our best chance for accumulating snowfall will be between 3:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m. Tuesday with generally less than one inch (that could change) expected at this time.

Even light amounts of snowfall could cause a significant impact, especially with travel due to temperatures being well below freezing.

One of the areas of main concern is with some warmer temperatures expected Monday the roadways will retain some of that heat causing the initial precipitation to melt and then refreeze.  

Sustained winds of 8-12 mph and gusts up to 20 mph will combine with temperatures of 10-25 to produce wind chills possibly as low as -5. Afternoon temperatures will probably remain below freezing for at least the northern half of our area, and another very cold night is expected Wednesday night.

Right now, the weather service has not issued any watches or advisories for our area but did say that decision would be made either late this evening or by Monday.

At this time there has been no decision made concerning school on Tuesday or Wednesday. Both Superintendent Mitchell Guice and Transportation Supervisor Harold Pearson were at the briefing this morning and will be carefully monitoring the situation.

Another briefing will be held on Monday and we will continue to send out updates as we get closer to Tuesday.
