ABC/Tony Rivetti(LOS ANGELES) — ABC is saying farewell to their Tuesday night comedy, The Mayor.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, ABC has cancelled the freshman comedy starring Brandon Micheal Hall as a struggling hip-hop artist who ran for mayor as a publicity stunt to promote his mixtape, then wins the popular vote.
The show, which was pulled off of the air ahead of its January return, will now wrap up at thirteen episodes, leaving four episodes unaired.
But that doesn’t mean we’ve seen the last of The Mayor. THR says ABC producers are shopping the comedy to other networks. Hulu, who has a joint venture with Disney, also has secured rights to the series.
Yvette Nicole Brown, who played Hall’s mother, Dina, on the show, shared the disappointing news on Instagram.
“Welp! #GrandOpeningGrandClosing,” she wrote, captioning THR‘s report on the cancellation. “Sending a hearty thank you to all of you who gave our sweet show a shot! Bummed that our time in Fort Grey is over and that (4) eps remain unseen but that’s the biz. Ya win some, ya lose some.”
“I’m so grateful that I got to bring #DinaRose to life. It was such a JOY! #Grateful #TheMayor,” she added.
