Getty Images/Michael Kovac(NEW YORK) — Wendy Williams sat down with Amy Robach on Good Morning America Friday to discuss her fainting on live TV during a Halloween episode of her talk show this week.
“I was dehydrated, according to the paramedics, and, you know, I went to my own doctors and I’m fine, including blood work,” she explained.
When Amy marveled that Williams was able to recover and complete the show, Williams boasted, “I’m not your average talk show host.”
But, she noted, doing morning television every day is a physical challenge. “This is a tough grind, you know, morning TV,” she said. “You wake up at 5:30 in the morning and you go all day.”
Williams suggested that people may have been particularly concerned for her because she’s a woman.
“We’re judged differently than the men are,” the host said. “‘Oh, she look like she’s, you know, getting old,’ or, ‘She looks like she’s gaining weight.’ People thought that I was having a stroke on TV, and other people thought that I was having a heart attack.”
Tuesday, Williams — who was dressed as the Statue of Liberty for Halloween — stammered, stumbled back a step, and appeared to be frightened before then falling to the floor. The show quickly went to commercial, with the audience heard gasping in the background.
After the break, Williams returned to the stage and offered an explanation. “That was not a stunt,” she said. “I overheated in my costume and I did pass out. But do you know what? I’m a champ and I’m back!”
