United Nations(NEW YORK) — U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley was evacuated from a South Sudanese refugee camp on Wednesday after a group protesting South Sudan’s President Salva Kiir Mayardit approached the vent.
A U.S. official told ABC News that Haley’s security team determined that the event was no longer safe and escorted her out prior to the scheduled end of the event.
Haley continued with the remainder of her planned schedule in South Sudan. She later flew to the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
The U.S. official did not believe the protesters made any contact with Haley.
Haley had met with the South Sudanese president earlier in the day, but he was not present at the event in question.
This is a developing story. Check back for more updates.
