Steve Zak Photography/Getty Images(LOS ANGELES) — As Meryl Streep’s lengthy statement criticizing movie mogul Harvey Weinstein began making headlines, others in Hollywood — some of whom have worked with the Oscar-winning producer — are also sounding off.

In a statement to Newsweek, Oscar-winner Judi Dench — who was once such a fan of Weinstein that she reportedly had a temporary tattoo of him placed on her posterior — called the accusations “horrifying.”

Her statement also noted she was “completely unaware of these offenses,” and that she wished to “offer my sympathy to those who have suffered.”  Weinstein produced Dench’s movie Mrs. Brown.

Oscar-winner Jeff Bridges, who worked with Weinstein on the film The Giver, told Variety that the producer is “facing his demons now,” and offered, “I hope the best for him.” 

Kevin Smith, whose films Clerks, Mallrats, Chasing Amy, and Dogma were produced by Weinstein’s former company, Miramax, tweeted, “He financed the first 14 years of my career – and now I know while I was profiting, others were in terrible pain. It makes me feel ashamed.”

While slamming Weinstein, Guardians of the Galaxy series writer-director James Gunn made a broader point in a lengthy post that was strongly worded — to say the least. ” …Sexual predation is rife in Hollywood. But it’s also rife EVERYWHERE.”  He then said that a recent conversation with several close female friends revealed how common it is. 

“As evinced by the stories I heard Friday night, some men…try to coerce women (or children or other men) sexually, and they will try and do so when they get any small amount of power…,” Gunn wrote on Facebook. “They are movie stars and network heads and world famous bloggers – but they are also fast food restaurant managers and used car salesmen and, as I learned as a child (and tried to speak out and was shut down), priests.”

Gunn added that he hopes now, “Their reign is coming to an end, in Hollywood, and everywhere.”
