Miley Cyrus pens an emotional “Thank You Note” to Hillary Clinton on “The Tonight Show”

NBC/Andrew Lipovsky(NEW YORK) — On day three of “Miley Week” on The Tonight Show Wednesday, Miley Cyrus took part in a special edition of host Jimmy Fallon’s “Thank You Notes,” honoring his main guest, Hillary Rodham Clinton, delivering an emotional, heartfelt message to the former Secretary of State, Senator, and first lady.

After some of Fallon’s female writers took turns reading funny, but touching notes, to Clinton, with her looking on, Miley came out and struck a more serious tone.

“Thank You, Hillary for being a constant beacon of strength, hope and determination for me and millions of other young women,” she said, choking back tears. “You’ve been a role model and an inspiration and a voice of reason in uncertain times.

“I could go on and on, but I’d like to get right to the point: can I give you a hug?” she continued.

“Yes, yes, yes,” screamed Clinton, and the two embraced.

Clinton followed with a “Thank You Note” of her own:

“Thank you, Miley, the Tonight Show writers, and all of the women and young girls out there. You are smart, strong and deserving of every opportunity. Together, we have made our voices heard, we’ve done great things and we’ve come a long way,” she said.

“But as Miley would say, ‘We can’t stop and we won’t stop.'”

Later, Miley closed the show with a cover of Nancy Sinatra’s 1960s hit “These Boots Are Made for Walking,” which she dedicated to Clinton.

Earlier, the “Younger Now” singer joined Fallon for an impersonation of Kenny Rogers and Miley’s godmother, Dolly Parton, singing their 1983 hit, “Islands in the Stream.”
