Mule Day Festival Comes To Collinsville

For 30 years, the City of Ider has celebrated the agricultural heritage of North Alabama with Mule Day. However earlier this year event organizers announced that the annual Labor Day celebration had come to an end due in part to the rising cost.

John Dersham, Executive Director of DeKalb Tourism said that due to overall expenses and tremendous volunteer hours required for putting the event on each year, a decision was made back in March to discontinue the traditional and popular Labor Day event.

Those who enjoyed the festival for so many years can breathe a sigh of relief though; Mule Day is making a welcomed return to the Town of Collinsville.

Collinsville Mayor Johnny Traffanstedt said that a local citizen, Jonathan Chastain, approached the council a couple of months ago wanting to know if he could have the Mule Day in Collinsville.

The council agreed to Chastain’s request and Mule Day is returning, but this time in Collinsville. Bar C Farms will host the first annual Collinsville Mule Day. This event will be held on Labor Day, Monday, September 4. Activities will be held in and around Collinsville Trade Day and Bar C Farms. Admission is $2 per person, children 5 and under free.

The day’s festivities will start with a parade at 9:30 A.M. that will come through the town of Collinsville and end at Bar C Farms.  There will also be concession stands, a tack trailer, pony rides, games, and much more for the whole family to enjoy. Events will include; Trail competition (any equine can enter), Mule halter classes, Mule riding classes and Log snaking and loading. There will also be a big firework show that night at the city park hosted by The City of Collinsville.
