Syrian State TV: Car bomb rocks Damascus, several killed

Getty Images/LOUAI BESHARA(NEW YORK) — Three car bombs rocked the Syrian Capital of Damascus Sunday morning, according to Syrian state television.

Security forces intercepted three suicide bombers early Sunday morning, blowing up two of them at the entrance to Damascus. The third, however, did make it into a busy central district of the city, and reports suggest the bomb it was carrying was detonated as the car was being surrounded by the authorities.

Damascus has been spared the large scale battles that have devastated other Syrian cities during the country’s six year civil war, but dozens of people have been killed in bombings.

This is a developing story.
