A tractor trailer crashed and caught fire on Highway 27 Tuesday afternoon in Floyd County.
Rome Fire Department Battalion Chief Clete Bonney said the driver lost control of the truck as he was traveling on 27 South near Darlington Road and went off the roadway; during the crash a side fuel tank caught fire and in turn burned up the cab of the vehicle.
Fortunately, the driver was able to get out safely.
By the time emergency officials arrived on the scene, that cab was fully engulfed in flames – reports indicated a spill of approximately 50 gallons of diesel fuel resulting from the wreck.
