Three DeKalb County Drug Arrests Made with Help of Department K9 “Yogi”

A recent DeKalb County Driver’s License Checkpoint located on County Road 44 and County Road 50 resulted in a drug arrest being made.

After being asked to pull out of traffic and park by the roadside for not having a license a 24 year old Brookwood man was arrested on drug charges – after the department’s K9 Officer, Yogi, “hit” on the vehicle, indicating the presence of drugs; the subsequent search turned up two small baggies containing a white crystal substance which field-tested positive for meth; a glass pipe was also found.

Charles Scott Steakley was charged with two counts of Unlawful Possession of a Controlled Substance, and with Unlawful Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.  After being transported to the DeKalb County Detention Center he was found to have meth on his person leading to an additional charge of Promoting Prison Contraband 2nd Degree.

In an unrelated traffic stop on Highway 35 – the 23 year old driver, Yancarlos Saldana, from Albertville was found to have warrants from the Guntersville Police Department – resulting in his being detained.  He was also found to be in possession of methamphetamine.  K9 Yogi and a Deputy conducted a check of the vehicle, with the dog indicating a “hit”.  At that point, a Ft Payne Police Officer providing assistance asked the passenger to step out of the vehicle

24 year old Arele Cordoba Alvarado also of Albertville, was found to be in possession of two glass pipes – and a plastic container with a white substance inside. Officers found a number of glass pipes and methamphetamine during a search of the vehicle. 

Both individuals were charged with the Unlawful Possession of a Controlled Substance and Unlawful Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.
