Hope for Italian Avalanche Rescue Operations Dwindles as Death Toll Rises

iStock/Thinkstock(FARINDOLA, Italy) — Hope is fading for more survivors at the site of an avalanche in Italy as the death toll rises to 25 in the rescue.

While the search for the remaining five people missing in the wreckage of a hotel moves into its seventh day, rescuers hold out little hope of locating anymore people alive. Tuesday night the bodies of three men, including the hotel manager, were found in the basement of the building. Then Wednesday morning, the bodies of two women and another man were recovered.

The discoveries came a day after six more people died nearby in a helicopter crash following the rescue of a wounded skier. Two of those on board had been involved in the rescue operation of the avalanche-hit hotel.
