iStock/Thinkstock(MANILA, Philippines) — A Facebook post from Australian businessman Trent Shields has changed another man’s life.
While on a trip in the Philippines, Shields ran out of a cab feeling unwell. When the cab driver, 30 year-old Reggie Cabututan, realized Shields left some of his belongings in the vehicle, he returned the businessman’s laptop, passport and headphones, worth thousands to Shields.
Shields penned an appreciative response on Facebook, leading to a flurry of good-will wishes toward Cabututan.
“All I did was go back and return [the] belongings when I realized [they] had been left,” Cabututan told local media after gaining recognition for returning the items.
“The real story should be focused on his integrity,” Shields wrote on Facebook.
Another social media post by Shields’ friend Ace Estrada offered Cabututan the chance to go to Australia and complete a six-month software development course- run by one of Mr. Shield’s companies – in June, the BBC reports.
“When he completes the course, he is guaranteed an internship with an Australian company, leading to a job that will pay him a good starting salary,” Estrada wrote.
The appreciation for Cabututan even led to an award by the Baguio city government during a flag ceremony, according to the Philippines news site Rappler.
