6 Dead, 18 Missing as Typhoon Nock-Ten Blasts Philippines

U.S. State Department(MANILA, Philippines) — Typhoon Nock-Ten has left six dead and eighteen missing as it batters battered parts of the Philippines and its capital Manila.

The number of fatalities caused by the tyhoon has doubled since Monday, some 430,000 people wre pre-emptively evacuated from their homes in vulnerable areas.

A ferry sank off the coastal provine of Batangas, which killed one and left 18 crewmen missing. Power lines have been cut and trees uprooted in the country.

On Monday, the BBC reported the storm was weakening but still threatened Manila. Earlier, the coast guard has called for an evacuation of beaches to the South of Manila.

A deadly typhoon hit the country recently in October, killing four. Typhoon Nock-Ten is expected to cross the island of Luzon, where Manila is located, and head into the South China Sea.
