Deadly Typhoon Nock-Ten Heads towards Manila

U.S. State Department(MANILA, Philippines) — Typhoon Nock-Ten has battered parts of the Philippines and is scheduled to hit the capital Manila later Monday according to BBC News.

The storm has killed three people in Albay province, which is south east of Manila. Power lines have been cut and trees uprooted. The charity Save the Children told the BBC up to one million people will need shelter over the next day.

The BBC says the storm has weakened but can still reach winds up to 87 miles per hour. Manila’s civil defense office warned it could be hit by “intense rains, flash floods and severe winds.” The coast guard has called for an evacuation of beaches to the South of Manila.

A deadly typhoon hit the country recently in October, killing four. Typhoon Nock-Ten is expected to cross the island of Luzon, where Manila is located, and head into the South China Sea.
