Hundreds of Thousands Protest in Seoul Demanding South Korean President's Resignation

A huge crowd gathered in Seoul on Saturday to demand the resignation of South Korean President Park Geun-hye for allowing her friend Choi Soon-sil, the daughter of a cult leader, access to government resources.

Organizers said 1 million people turned out for Saturday’s protest, but police estimated the crowd to be about 260,000, according to BBC.

The president has so far not faced any criminal charges, but Choi was taken into custody and arrested last week. Park allegedly had Choi edit some of her speeches and even picked out clothes for the president to wear.

Choi is accused of using her decades-long friendship with the president to solicit Korean business donations for foundations she controlled. The offices of Samsung Electronics were raided by authorities earlier this week in connection with the corruption probe.
