iStock/Thinkstock(KABUL) — Multiple people were killed when a suicide bomber and a gunman attacked a German consulate in Afghanistan on Friday.

At least six people were killed and about 120 were wounded from the blast in Mazar-e-Sharif, officials said according to BBC. The bomber smashed a truck into a perimeter wall of the consulate and then a gunman attacked the building, BBC reports.

The Taliban has claimed responsibility for the attack and said it was in retaliaton for air strikes in the Kunduz province last week, according to BBC.

The German foreign ministry said all German consulate staff were “safe and uninjured,” according to BBC.

“We strongly condemn this heinous attack,” said a statement from the German embassy in Kabul. “Our thoughts are with the victims of the assault.”
