Canadian Immigration Website Crashes on Election Night

Zoonar/Thinkstock(NEW YORK) — You’ve probably heard more than one person say they’ll move to Canada if one of the presidential candidates wins the election.  Apparently, quite a few Americans are looking into that.

Somewhere between 10:00 p.m. and 10:30 p.m. Eastern time, the Citizenship and Immigration Canada website, which is the official Canadian government on immigration, crashed as election returns seemed to guarantee a victory for Donald Trump.

The reason, apparently, was too much traffic.

The crash caused a sensation on social media as Twitter was inundated with hundreds of tweets.

The site was back up by nearly 1 a.m. ET Wednesday, though still slow.
