Stocktrek Images/Thinkstock(NEW YORK) — The climate around the world over the last five years has been exceptionally hot, a new report from the United Nations’ weather agency finds.
The World Meteorological Organization report shows that 2011 to 2015 marked the hottest five-year period on record.
“We just had the hottest five-year period on record, with 2015 claiming the title of hottest individual year. Even that record is likely to be beaten in 2016,” World Meteorological Organization Secretary-General Petteri Taalas said in a statement.
The report also found that during that five-year period, several extreme weather and climate events “were made more likely as a result of human-induced (anthropogenic) climate change.”
