iStock/Thinkstock(ROSEMONT, Ill.) – Big Ten football has a new night, as the conference announced it will play six Friday night games beginning next season.
As part of a new television contract, the Friday night games will only take place in September and October and will not feature every team. As the conference commissioner Jim Delany told The Chicago Tribune, schools with huge stadiums like Penn State and Ohio State will not be asked to host the games. Meanwhile, Michigan has declined to participate in the Friday night games as the home or away team.
While this may mean better ratings for one of the nation’s top conferences, many of its coaches feel that the Friday night games could have a negative effect on recruiting.
The Big Ten plans to announce the 2017 Friday night schedule within the week.
