Why Two Parties Dominate the US Political System

iStock/Thinkstock(NEW YORK) — This year’s presidential campaign has left many voters looking for an alternative to the two major political parties.

If George Washington had gotten his way, there wouldn’t be political parties to begin with.

The first president was actively against political parties, but they ended up forming after Washington’s successors took over.

While there are more than a dozen political parties in the United States, the two biggest gain the most public recognition and federal funding, although that may not always be the case.
