Obama 'Shocked' at Birther Issue; Says 'Pretty' Sure Where He Was Born

Official White House Photo by Pete Souza(WASHINGTON) — President Obama on Friday reacted to the Trump campaign’s acknowledgement that the president was born in the U.S., saying he’s “not that shocked” the conspiracy theory has found its way back into the news.

“I was pretty confident about where I was born,” Obama wryly said to ABC’s Jonathan Karl during a meeting in the Oval Office. “I think most people were as well.”

Obama answered the question during a bipartisan meeting to promote the Trans Pacific Partnership that included business leaders, former military officials and politicians, including former New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg and Ohio Gov. John Kasich.

“I have no reaction [to the Trump campaign] and I’m ‘shocked’ that a question like that has come up at a time when we have so many other things to do,” Obama said. “Well, I’m not that shocked actually. It’s fairly typical.”

The president did not respond when asked if Trump owes him an apology, as Hillary Clinton insisted during remarks earlier in the day.
