New Implant Available For Rotator Cuff Repair

jqbaker/iStock/Thinkstock(ALHAMBRA, Calif.) – A new medical patch promises to cut down on the pain associated with rotator cuff injuries.

Dr. Randall Farac of Pacific Orthopedic Associates has begun treating his patients with the Rotation Medical implant, which he says is less invasive than traditional surgery, and reduces the time needed for physical therapy.

“It’s like ironing a patch to a pair of jeans to add tissue,” Farac said. The patch is about the size of a postage stamp.

Workers compensation claims adjuster Richard Owens  says the procedure really helped his injury.

“This was like terrible and now it’s OK, alright. No problem,” he said.

Studies say roughly one in four Americans over the age of 40 refuse surgery to treat rotator cuff injuries because of the strenuous rehab process.
