Scammers are out to steal from anyone, anywhere, anytime and they’ll lie like a rug to do it – and unfortunately, a lot of people fall for these con games; notice we said “a lot,”, not ALL.

One con artist more than met his match when he called one area resident trying to collect a phony tax bill. 

We spoke to that person on Wednesday morning.

According to the woman, the man on the phone was rude, unprofessional, and very harsh in general, stating that she owed the IRS $2,600, and that the amount needed to be paid right now.  The intended target was onto the guy from the get-go, and proceeded to ask question after question in an effort to make him as miserable and frustrated as possible.

She was told to immediately go and purchase a Green Dot debit card worth $2,600 and then give him  the account number.  No go.

She says he soon got to the point where he threatened to have her arrested and said that he would send an officer over in the next few minutes. She then said something to the effect of “Hey send ’em on over…I couldn’t care less.” – which didn’t go over well with that scammer, but hey, if you cheat and lie for a livin’ you should be able to take a little when someone else decides to dish it out.

The caller also tried to frighten the woman by telling her that not paying that tax bill would adversely affect her credit, which was already very bad. 

When she told him her credit was good enough for the brand new 2016 Nissan that’s sitting in her driveway, that was pretty much the end of the line.  He was done. 

She managed to waste more than 20 minutes of that scammer’s time and she enjoyed every single minute of it.

Tell your friends this scam has made an unwelcome return to the area and they need to be on their guard against it.
