Piedmont Rescue & EMS receives grant for CPR machines

Piedmont Rescue and EMS has received a $96,000 FEMA AFG grant which will be used to purchase seven state of the art CPR devices that will be deployed on all the departments ambulances.

The LUCAS Chest Compression System helps sustain vital blood circulation in cardiac arrest patients. During cardiac arrest the victim’s heart isn’t beating, which means there is no oxygen being supplied to their vital organs. The LUCAS Chest Compression System will allow uninterrupted, high-quality CPR to ensure that those organs survive.

Piedmont Rescue & EMS Chief Philip Winkles states, “These devices will allow our crews to better CPR without compromising their own safety by standing up in the back of the ambulance. CPR is very tiring to perform and the LUCAS device will not get tired of providing adequate compressions. It’s really a win-win.”

Piedmont Rescue & EMS is proud to be one of only a handful of ambulance services in the state to have a LUCAS Chest Compression System on every ambulance.
