Meeting: The Cherokee County Historical Society will meet on Tuesday, April 21st at 6:00 pm. The meeting will be held at the Museum on East Main Street.

Program: Marking Cherokee County’s Trail of Tears

Trail of Tears The public is invited to attend and learn about the part Cherokee County played in the Trail of Tears.

The program will be presented by Mr. Jim Lewis, Cherokee County Historian. Mr. Lewis is dedicated to researching and documenting the History of Cherokee County. He has a vast library of research and materials that he has gathered. Mr. Lewis is generous and shares his information with those who are interested. He has donated much of his work to the local Museum and Library.   He will speak on his research on the Trail of Tears in Cherokee County. He has applied for and received permission to erect Trail of Tears signage in two areas that are approved by the National Park Service. Adet Stephens, Co-President of the Historical Society says, “Mr. Lewis is very knowledgeable about Cherokee County history and is dedicated to preserving its rich history.   We are blessed to have a person of his knowledge and dedication serving as our historian.”

There will be a brief business meeting, prior to the program, to discuss the By-Laws.

There is no cost for attending the meeting.
