Vapor Leak at Lewis Chemical Plant Results in Evacuation

Rome Vapor LeakRome firefighters and other emergency personnel were dispatched to Lewis Chemical on Sycamore Street early Wednesday morning in reference to a chemical vapor leak.

Rome Fire Department Batallion Chief Phil Litton said the leak resulted in the evacuation of residents within a half mile radius of the plant.

The leak was repaired by 3:30am and residents were permitted to return to their homes.
