Alexandria Man Charged With Attempted Murder And Burglary In Connection With Home Invasion Incident

A 46 year old Alexandria man is behind bars after forcing his way into a home and stabbing the homeowner with at screwdriver.

According to Calhoun County Chief Deputy Matthew Wade the incident occurred on Saturday evening at approximately 5:00 p.m. when a woman responded to a knock on the door of her residence – she recognized the man who had apparently done some work on her residence approximately six weeks ago.

As soon as she opened the door he forced himself inside and immediately stabbed her with a screw driver. She fled into the house and he pursued her, a struggle ensued with the man grabbing several knives from her kitchen and cutting her multiple times on the face and neck causing serious injury.

The suspect then took her purse and cell phone and left the scene. She was unable to walk but managed to crawl outside before rolling several hundred feet down her driveway to U. S. Highway 431. Several passing motorists noticed her and stopped to assist.

Terry Joe CentersShe was transported by ambulance to RMC and later transferred to UAB by helicopter. The victim was able to provide deputies with the name and description of the suspect- Terry Joe Centers, a white male. He was driving a brown Chevrolet pickup truck.

A BOLO was immediately issued to all local agencies and a search for the suspect began. At approximately 2:00 a.m. two Anniston PD officers noticed a vehicle matching the suspect vehicle description at Alabama Highway 202 and Quintard Avenue.

At that time a traffic stop was conducted with the Center’s being arrested, he was arrested and turned over to Sheriff’s Deputies and placed in the Calhoun County Jail and charged with Attempted Murder and Burglary 1st Degree.

At the time of his arrest, Centers was on Probation for a previous drug offense. He has no bond. He is a 46 year old white male and listed his address in Alexandria.
