Mrs. Virginia H. “Jean” Nolin age 82 of Jacksonville passed away Friday December 5th at her residence.
Funeral services will be 1 PM Sunday December 7th at Westside Baptist Church in Jacksonville, Al. with Rev. Ken Phillips, Rev. Truman Norred and Rev. Chuck Cummings officiating, burial will follow in Mt. Bethel Cemetery in Broomtown. The family will receive friends at the church from 12 until 1 PM Sunday.
Virginia led an exciting life starting when she graduated from high school at 16. Her sights were set high and she left the farm life and headed off to Berry College, the first of her family to attend college. Bigger things were calling though and she ventured to Washington DC in order to work in J. Edgar Hoover’s
FBI fingerprint division. While in DC she was introduced to a smart dressing Navy man, Denver Nolin, who later became her husband. She gave up what certainly would have been a successful professional life for a different kind of success; choosing the high calling of motherhood and being a strong Navy wife and we are happy she did. Although she faced many trials and struggles, just like we all do in this life, she always focused on assuring her children were taken care of, encouraged to succeed and understood priorities. As much as she loved her children, we think she loved her grandchildren even more and took great delight in watching them grow up.
Survivors include sons, James (Fran) Nolin of Anniston and Denver Hugh (Susan) Nolin of Birmingham: daughter, Delores (Perry) Kenner of Anniston: sister, Jackie Chatman of Gaylesville: grandchildren, Angela Eason, Joshua Lipham, Katie Nolin, Sara Nolin and Heather Nolin: several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Denver H. Nolin; son, Joseph Edward Nolin and sister, Carolyn Ward.
Pallbearers: Lloyd Chatman, Jeff Ward, Steven McCullough, Perry Kenner, Joshua Lipham and Don Gross.
Honorary Pallbearers: Howell Lett and David Ward.
Mrs. Nolin was a native of Cherokee County, the daughter of the late Samuel H. and Lula Cleveadell Yarborough Hartline and was a member of the Westside Baptist Church in Jacksonville. She was a member of the order of Eastern Star.
