Just hours after a news release was issued to several media outlets – Calhoun County authorities say a man who robbed an Alexandria restaurant early Wednesday morning turned himself in.

In a post on the Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office Facebook page, authorities said 29 year old Robert Andrew Devlin turned himself in and gave a statement admitting his involvement in a robbery at Huddle House on U.S. 431.

The incident happened at 1:30 a.m. A man came into the Huddle House and asked the cashier for change for a dollar. The cashier opened the register, and the man shoved her to the ground and took money from the register.

The man attempted to flee, when a customer who witnessed the robbery fought with him in the parking lot. The man got to his vehicle and left the scene, but the customer was able to break out a window of the man’s vehicle, helping to identify it.

Wade said investigators have identified Devlin as the suspect based on tattoos on his body. That identification was made by software developed by a county employee, which allows pictures of every tattoo on inmates at the county jail to be photographed and cataloged.
