Cherokee County Native Coty Blanchard scores winning run against the Brooklyn Cyclones

Coty Blanchard 2Brooklyn, NY The Hudson Valley Renegades improved their record to 7-4 overall on Monday night, topping the Cyclones 1-0 at MCU Park in Brooklyn. In the top of the 10th inning Coty Blanchard singled and stole second base.

Clayton Henning then doubled home Blanchard to score the first and only run of the contest. Josh Kimborowicz tossed a clean bottom of the tenth, closing out the opponent in order and earning his second victory of the season.

With the loss, Brooklyn falls to 8-3 overall, as the Renegades inched to within one game of first place in the McNamara Division.

Making his third start of the season, Hunter Wood went six scoreless innings with five strikeouts and only three hits surrendered. After three outings, he’s given up just one run, and has an ERA that now sits at an impressive .57.

The bullpen held up their end of the bargain coming on in relief, as Darren Fischer and Josh Kimborowicz teamed up for four innings of one hit baseball. The pair struck out four batters and gave up no runs in the combined shutout of their McNamara Division opponent.

At the plate, Hudson Valley compiled six base hits, including the go-ahead base knock from Henning in extra innings. Mac James, Casey Gillaspie, Coty Blanchard and Clayton Henning all had one hit, while Daniel Miles went 2-4 with a double. Blanchard leads the NY-Penn league in stolen bases with seven while his .355 batting average is fourth best.

In front of a crowd of 5,289, the Renegades gave the Cyclones just their second loss at their home ballpark.

After eleven games, Hudson Valley has the top pitching staff in the New York-Penn League, with a combined 2.06 Earned Run Average. With all the extra innings affairs, they lead the league with 109 total innings, and a 7-4 total record.
