Charges Pending Against Mother of Child Killed in Car Crash

It now appears the driver of the vehicle that crashed into a concrete utility pole in Rome, killing a seven year old child Saturday morning – will be charged in connection with the case. M’Kenzey Floyd was pronounced dead at 8:55am in the Floyd Medical Center Emergency Room following an accident at the intersection of Callahan Street and South Broad.

A Rome police report indicates that charges are pending against M’Kenzey’s mother – who lost control of the SUV before slamming into the utility pole.

Reportedly M’Kenzey, who was riding in the front passenger seat and a three year old child were not properly restrained.

The mother, Tewanna Marie Atkins, and the three year old were carried to Floyd Medical Center and then transferred to Erlanger Medical Center with serious injuries.

Atkins is currently listed in fair condition with the three year old is listed in good condition.

The investigation into the circumstances surrounding the accident continues.
