Cherokee County Christmas Parade

A holiday tradition once again delighted kids from 1 to 92 (or thereabouts) in downtown Centre Saturday.

The annual Cherokee County Christmas Parade featured more than 100 entries from area businesses, schools, community organizations, civic clubs, and church groups.

The parade was led by first responders and officials from the town of Leesburg, this year’s Grand Marshall.

We spoke with Mayor Ed Mackey prior to the parade.

A number of local pageant winners rode in the parade.

Miss Gadsden State Community College Victoria Cleveland was also there.

The Cherokee County High School Marching Band played “Angels We Have Heard On High” as the parade made its way from DC Gas up Main Street to Centre Elementary School.

There were also floats galore.

1st place in the Business Catagory went to Quic Loans.

2nd Place was Cherokee County Pet Clinic.

1st Place in the Non-Profit Catagory was the entry from Charles Brumbeloe.

2nd Place went to the float from Girl Scout Troop 675.

In the Schools Catagory, the float featuring the Gaylesville School Cheerleaders, Trojanettes and Homecoming Queen won 1st Place.

2nd Place in the Schools Catagory was the Miss Cherokee Ag Fair float.

The parade also featured antique cars, motorcycles, horses and various public safety vehicles.

…..and of course Santa Claus made an appearance, riding in a City of Centre Fire Truck.
