Gadsden Police Department’s Explosive Ordinance Device Unit Called to Cherokee County

CCSO - Explosive 2

The Gadsden Police Department’s Explosive Ordinance Device Unit, was contacted by Cherokee County Sheriff Jeff Shaver on Friday (October 11th) in regard to two suspicious boxes found in a wooded area off County Road 45 in the Forney community.

Acting on a tip, investigators located two green, military type boxes, reported to possibly contain explosives – and Sheriff Shaver notified area residents of the potential danger.

The Explosive Ordinance Device Unit studied both boxes, and deemed it unsafe to move the two objects to perform a complete exam – it was therefore decided to detonate in place.  A detonation charge was placed and the suspected explosives burned out, signifying that the boxes most likely contained nothing more than road flares – marking this as a case of “better safe than sorry.”

Sheriff Shaver said anyone that discovers a suspicious object should exercise caution and contact authorities immediately.
