Sheriff Jeff Shaver Seeking Assistance in Identifying Rightful Owner of Suspected Stolen Tractor

The Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office is seeking the assistance of the public in identifying what is suspected to be a stolen tractor.

That tractor – a Yanmar 1300 – was recently recovered from the County Road 18 property of 49 year old Russell Rhodes Maxwell who stands charged with four counts of Obscuring the Identity of a Vehicle and with two counts of Receiving Stolen Property 1st Degree.

Maxwell remains in the Cherokee County Detention Center under $50,000 bond.

A recent search of that property resulted in the recovery of the tractor, in addition to three ATV’s – with their identification numbers removed.

The National Insurance Crime Bureau later confirmed that the ATV’s had been taken stolen from locations in north Alabama and north Georgia.

A photo of a tractor similar to the one recovered has been posted on the WEIS Radio website at – weisradio.com

Anyone with any information that may lead to the rightful owner of the tractor – is encouraged to contact Investigator Matt Peek at (256) 927-3365.
