City of Centre Passes Budget Following Special Called Meeting Thursday

The Centre City Council gathered at City Hall on Thursday afternoon, for a special called Budget Meeting – that, in response to some heated discussions taking place during the regular meeting of the council on Tuesday.

Council member Derrick Wheeler has these comments

At the end of that meeting, it was decided to have a special called meeting at 3:00pm Thursday.

Mayor Tony Wilkie presented the $3,046,700 budget to the council Thursday – and then asked if anyone had any questions – which prompted this response from council member Marc Johnson

The mayor then provided this explanation regarding the budget

The mayor has the authority as Chief Operating Officer of the City – to present the budget for the council to approve or disapprove.

The council voted to approve the measure with no dissenting votes.

The current years budget is $2,989,100 – that new budget is increased by $57,600 which includes a .50 cent per hour cost of living pay raise for city employees.

The issues regarding the expenditure of alcohol funds and proposed appropriations for the school system did not come up during Thursday’s meeting.
