Piedmont Utility Bill Due Date Will Remain The 15th….For October Anyway

pmont

The due date for utility bills in Piedmont will remain the 15th, at least for another month.

Tuesday night, the city council agreed to keep the due date the same for the month of October.

That is when a new due date of the 10th was supposed to go into effect.

Keeping the bills the same will give the council a chance to revisit the issue during its next regular meeting.

Councilman Ben Keller, a critic of the change, says it will be burden for those who are elderly, the poor and others on a fixed income.

He was in the process of making a motion to change the due date back to the 15th, when Mayor Rick Freeman told him he could not do so because it wasn’t on the agenda.

That led to this exchange between Mayor Freeman and Councilwoman Brenda Spears.

Once again, the issue is expected to be on the vote for the next council meeting.

Meanwhile, Mayor Freeman explained why moving the due date up by five days was necessary.

In other action, the council heard a report from Police Chief Steven Tidwell concerning Piedmont’s new Animal Control Officer Leann Smith.

The council also voted Tuesday to appoint Sharon Kelly to the Benevolence Center Board.
