5th graders at Centre Middle School were treated to a special visit Tuesday.

Lady Liberty herself was there as part of a program that teaches kids how to become proud, responsible American citizens inside the school and out.

Through a partnership with Regions Bank, The Liberty Learning Foundation provided free in-school performance and “Super Citizen” Program Resource Kits that will impact over 125 students at Centre Middle School.

Mario Jackson with the Liberty Learning Foundation explained the partnership.

The program teaches America’s history and heritage while incorporating character-building, financial literacy and career development components that the foundation believes are fundamental to the success of our youth and country.

The 5th graders will also participate in the “Torch Team” Project in which they will get to nominate someone they see as a hero right here in the community.

Tawanna Vickers, Program Director for the Liberty Learning tour. told us more.

Because parents, educators, leaders and businesses are taking ownership in this movement, officials with the foundation say they are succeeding in strengthening the character of whole communities.
