A former Cedartown, Georgia attorney has been sentenced to almost six years behind bars.
Miles Gammage was arrested in November 2011 – and charged with one count of theft by taking six counts of theft by conversion and six counts of first degree forgery. He pled guilty to a single count of mail fraud.
Gammage was disbarred in January of 2012.
He was recently sentenced to five years and 10 months in prison and ordered to pay restitution in the amount of $1,310,000 to his victims – totaling more than 50.
Gammage specialized in workers’ comp cases representing people who were seriously injured on the job; police say that he used the funds collected to pay his own expenses and the operating and payroll expenses for his firm. He would also settle claims for clients without their authorization, and would never notify the clients that he’d received the settlement checks.
Gammage currently remains out on bond – and he’ll actually begin his sentence when ordered by the Federal Bureau of Prisons.
