Funny Money In Chattooga County

counterfeit 2

There are more reports of counterfeit money turning up in the area.

Arif Imran, the owner of Crossroads Market on Highway 48 in Chattooga County reported that on Tuesday of this week he received a counterfeit ten dollar bill.

The store owner said that over the past several days different people had presented counterfeit money for payment that he refused.

Last week a Summerville woman presented a counterfeit one hundred dollar bill to the Summerville McDonald’s.

An investigator from the sheriff’s department was called to the restaurant where the woman who had presented the money stated that she had received the money from her grandmother after her grandmother wrote a check and had it cashed.

These aren’t the first instances of “Funny Money” turning up in Chattooga County.

Earlier this month a woman brought a $10.00 bill to the sheriff’s office stating that she had received the bill when she was given change at Little Caesar’s Pizza in Summerville.

Prior to that a cashier at Mr. C’s Convenience Store on Highway 27 in Summerville reported that a clerk there had taken in a phony five ($5.00).

Unfortunately Cherokee County has not been immune to fake money.

In May, Sheriff Jeff Shaver reported that several businesses here had reportedly received bogus bills including tens, twenties, and one hundreds.

Also in May, fake bills were reported in Gadsden, Boaz and Rome, Georgia.
