One of the three bodies pulled from Weiss Lake last Thursday has now been identified.
According to Cherokee County Coroner Broderick Smith, one of the bodies was that of a 41 year old Piedmont resident, Bobby DeWayne Hyatt.
We understand that a positive ID has yet to be made on the other two.
Smith had previously informed WEIS Radio News, in an e-mail, that the bodies were believed to be those of two adult males and one adult female.
The Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office responded to a location on County Road 31, around a mile and a half off of Highway 411 Thursday afternoon, June 13th at roughly 1:30pm, in response to a report of a vehicle being found upside down in the water, down an embankment.
It was quickly determined that three bodies were inside the small Dodge pickup; all three bodies were sent to the Department of Forensic Sciences in Huntsville for autopsies – and for help in the identification process.
The investigation into the matter is on-going and we’ll have additional information as it becomes available.
