Sentencing Date For Charles Todd Changed To June 14th

TODDCharles Clayton Todd had been scheduled for sentencing Tuesday May 28th, but that date has been changed to mid-June.

On May 8th (2013) – after deliberating for less than 40 minutes – a jury found Todd guilty on the  charge of Attempted Murder in addition to Robbery 1st Degree and Attempted Arson 1st Degree.

Todd was indicted by a Cherokee County grand jury on April 25th of 2012 on those charges after being accused of breaking into the home of Broomtown resident Carol Lowry on April 19th, and assaulting her with a deadly weapon, stealing property – and then setting her bed on fire with her in it, prior to fleeing the home. Fortunately the victim was able to beat out the flames before they spread – then managed to dial 9-1-1for help.

Law enforcement and emergency personnel quickly responded to the scene where they found the victim suffering serious injuries; she was immediately taken to an area hospital for treatment.

Todd was captured several hours later, at around 11:00 that night in a heavily wooded area off of County Road 60; he was initially charged with second degree assault – however the charges were soon upgraded.

Lowry is still recovering from the brutal attack – and she was in the courtroom the day that Todd was found guilty.

According to Circuit Court Clerk Duane Amos, the new sentencing date is June 14th at 1:30pm.

Todd remains in the Cherokee County Detention Center.
