Three Strikes And You’re Out

One Floyd County resident, could be very well be considered a “triple threat” – when it comes to breaking the law.

John Johnson of Rome was tagged with three counts, including a seatbelt violation, running from police and being in possession of a half-pound of pot – after being pulled over by a Summerville Police Officer near Bittings Avenue.

The officer pulled Johnson over, because he noticed he wasn’t wearing a seatbelt – after stopping the car, the suspect bailed out and fled on foot, but was quickly caught off of Commerce Street in the parking lot of Heritage Propane.

The officer added, that as he was about to take Johnson into custody – he noticed that the suspect had a cell phone in his possession – and, he was apparently attempting to delete messages off the phone before he finally broke it in half.

Police say that’s commonly observed behavior conducted by persons in the drug trade as they’re being taken into custody.

According to the Summerville News officers found a plastic bag containing marijuana behind the propane business and at that point Johnson was charged with possession of marijuana, possession with intent to distribute and possession of drugs within 1,000 feet of a housing project.
