Escaped Inmate Arrested In Connection With Bomb Scare

It now appears that the bomb threat called in to three hospitals late Sunday night was the work of an inmate who’d escaped from the Arab City Jail earlier in the evening.

Authorities say Jeremy Lang has been arrested in connection with the incident; it’s believed he is the one who made the call shortly after escaping; apparently around the same time he made a call to his girlfriend threatening her life.

When he arrived at her home in the Joplin community Sunday around midnight he was taken into custody.

The bomb threat was thought to have been a diversionary tactic, so he could go to his girlfriend’s residence without interference from law enforcement.

The threat came in at 8:17pm with the caller saying the bombs would explode at around 9:00 – with targets being listed as the Marshall Medical Center locations in Boaz and Guntersville, with the Cullman Medical Center also being named.

Fortunately no one was injured during any of the evacuations and each facility underwent what is being referred to as an “exhaustive” search – with nothing being found.

The Cullman Times is reporting that Lang is currently being held on a cash bond of $50,000.

He was also arrested on existing felony arson warrants and it appears that additional charges may be forthcoming.
