Cherokee County IDA Announces New Enhancement Fund

The Cherokee County Industrial Development Authority drew a significant crowd to their Friday morning Partnership Breakfast on the campus of Gadsden State Cherokee in Centre.

State Senators Gerald Dial and Phil Williams, Representative Richard Lindsey, members of the County Commission and the Industrial Development Authority, several area mayors and a range of other political and community leaders were all on-hand to hear about some of the projects that the local IDA is working on and gain some insight into what’s going on around the state from the guest speaker for the morning, Tate Godfrey, Executive Director of the North Alabama Industrial Development Association.

Cherokee County IDA Executive Director Luanne Hayes also announced that project funding is available through the Economic Development Enhancement Fund, set up by the IDA.

There are several guidelines that must be adhered to when requesting assistance through that new program:

There must be a formal request from either a Cherokee County municipality or Cherokee County Commission:

A brief explanation must be provided as to how a project relates to economic development, citing the positive economic development impact for the municipal or county investment, infrastructure and/or job creation;

A detailed project cost;

A complete list of all project funding sources;

All project requests will be reviewed by the full board of the Cherokee County IDA;

The project must be supported by the community’s City/Town Council or the Cherokee County Commission;

Funding will be provided as a reimbursement to the project;

Evidence of invoices and other funding commitments must accompany the request.

(Basis for funding is per project, per authority approval and the availability of funds)

For more information, contact Luanne Hayes at (256) 927-1805. The Cherokee County Industrial Development Authority meets on the first Wednesday of each month at 7:30am in the conference room at Gadsden State Cherokee.
