The Cedar Bluff Town Council has approved the purchase of a K-9 Unit for the Cedar Bluff Police Department.
During their regular meeting on Monday, a motion was approved to allow Officer Chris Vaughn to attend a four week training class to become the department’s official K-9 handler.
The cost of the training and the necessary equipment including the dog will be $15,600, the course is a four week program, that money will be taken from the town’s Alcohol Fund. That motion passed with the lone no vote coming from Councilmember Billie Burkhalter.
In other business the council approved a motion officially approving Sunday Alcohol Sales with no set time restriction throughout the day. Mayor Tammy Crane said that the next step will be for the council to adopt the official Resolution at the next meeting, post it for seven days at which point businesses can begin selling.
The council also approved a motion to deplete the debt on the one of the town’s garbage trucks by paying off the note and advertising for bids for the purchase of a new one.
A request from Fire Chief Shawn Rogers was also approved for the purchase of three sets of turnout gear; Rogers noted that the money for the purchase was already in his budget.
The council also approved the purchase of some property located on Reese Street in the amount of $20,000 which will be used a part of the development of the proposed Cedar Beach Park, $14,ooo of the money will come from the town’s Capital Improvement Funds and the remaining $6,000 coming from the Alcohol Fund.
Again, the motion passed with the lone no vote coming from Councilmember Billie Burkhalter.
