Firefighters from multiple departments responded to a hay barn on fire at the intersection of Highway 9 North and County Road 51 in Cedar Bluff just before 11:00 p.m. Friday.
Firefighters arrived on the scene to find the structure already completely engulfed in flames, the glow from the blaze could be seen from several miles away. Engines from the Cedar Bluff, Centre and Gaylesville Departments were dispatched to the scene with additional Tanker units from Spring Creek and Tucker’s Chapel in addition to Centre’s Ladder 9 also responding.
Reports indicate that there may have been as many as 1,000 bales of hay inside of the barn when the fire started.
It took firefighters several hours to bring the fire under control. Some residents in that area may have experienced a brief power outage because Cherokee Electric Crews had to cut a line that was in danger of catching fire near the barn.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
